Welding 1 (Introduction to Welding)

Explore the world of welding in this introductory class suitable for artists, hobbyists, and professionals alike. Discover manual and arc welding techniques, including oxy-acetylene, SMAW (Stick), and GMAW (MIG). Gain proficiency with essential tools like the angle grinder, sand blaster, and more. Perfect for those curious about welding or seeking to embark on personal or professional projects. No prior experience required.

Make a Ring Workshop

This four-hour workshop covers the basics of jewelry fabrication and finishing. Students learn how to cut metal, size it, solder it, and finish it. Upon completion of the workshop, each student will have a finished copper band test band and a finished silver band.

We also offer 5 week jewelry course. We also host custom workshops and wedding ring workshops and more!

Make a Spoon

Description: In this beginner level workshop, students will learn how to texture metal, anneal,rivet, and form as we work to make a decorative copper spoon out of sheet metal.

Guided Open Studio

This course is designed for students that have completed at least 2 Jewelry Courses who want to continue studio time with limited instruction. Prior authorization required to enroll.

Creative Drawing Class

Creative drawing concepts are explored in this 6-week class. The course focuses on the sparks of imagination and endless creative potential that we recognize in our childhood like second nature that through life becomes harder for us to explore the further we progress into adulthood. Join us in reconnection with our imagination and finding wonder that we can draw from to create images.

Advanced: Exploring Welding and Fabrication

Build upon your welding foundation from our Introduction to Welding course in this advanced class. Enhance skills in SMAW ('Stick'), GMAW ('MIG'), and/or Oxy-acetylene welding while exploring new areas such as GTAW ('TIG') welding, steel and iron fabrication, and finishing techniques. Perfect for those interested in metal sculpture, working with found metal, or honing welding skills for personal or professional projects.

Prerequisite: Completion of Stonybrook Fine Arts' Introduction to Welding within the last two years, with regular utilization of learned skills. Outside welding experience at Stonybrook Fine Arts in relevant processes may qualify for evaluation.

Make a Ring/Set a Stone Workshop

Learn the basics of jewelry making (students learn how to cut metal, file, and solder) while creating a silver ring with a bezel set stone. All materials are included. We also offer longer classes running 5 weeks. Metal casting, welding, jewelry making, mold making, and figure sculpture workshops are available. Custom workshops are available as well, including: wedding ring workshops, teen welding intensives, and more!

Jewelry 1

1 additional session

In this 5 week introductory class, students learn the fundamentals of jewelry-making to create their own wearable designs. We start with sawing, filing, soldering, polishing, and other traditional fabrication skills to make a custom sterling silver bezel-set ring. Using these skills, students design and create a final project under the guidance of the instructor.
